In the Cinedans Festival we will have another presentation of the Dutch Dancefilm Archive Project on March 29th 13.00 hrs. in EYE Amsterdam.
In Echoes of a Body of Work we will show special films by choreographers and directors, who recently left us: Hans van Manen, Krisztine de Châtel, Dick Hauser and René Hazekamp.
2025
Together with Martine Dekker, I continued working on the Dutch Dancefilm Archive Project. The work on the inventory consists of a lot of research in the archives of EYE Filmmuseum, and Beeld & Geluid. We discovered already some forgotten ‘pearls’ in these treasuries.
At the Cinedans Festival we organised another event on the importance of music/sound in dance movies. Martine interviewed director Clara van Gool, sound designer Alex de Booy, and composer Martijn Padding and myself on their co-operation in the field of dance movies. Fragments of our films were shown.
I continued writing about the Cultural Department NOS. This should become a book, titled ‘Television as an art form’.
2024
I started writing about Jan Venema (1937 – 2001) and the start of art programming on Dutch television in the sixties. I interviewed contemporaries who worked with Jan, people who were part of the Cultural Department of NOS-television. Experimental programmes like Eigentijds and documentaries on art in the series Beeldspraak were important contributions of Venema to art programming.
Jan his televison life synchronises with ’the beginning and the downfall’ of art on television. A man not to forget, as well as the people who realized a lot of interesting tv-programmes. More about this project soon.

HISTORY AND FUTURE OF DUTCH DANCE FILMS
My interest for old dance film material was aroused whilst doing research and production for the documentary ‘Waar zijn ze gebleven’ (Where did they go) by Ine Schenkkan, 1983, about the pioneers in Dutch dance. Since I have often made use of archive fragments in my own documentaries, e.g. about Alexandra Radius, Rudi van Dantzig, Sonia Gaskell (Madame) and Jaap Flier. Furthermore, I realised two programmes completely revolving around old dance film material, called ‘Dance in the box’, featuring ex-dancer and critic Ine Rietstap and choreographer Hans van Manen.
I made an inventory of all my research, and together with Martine Dekker, director Cinedance, we aim to realise an accesible list of all Dutch Dance Films. Podiumkunst.net intends to realise a digital overview of Dutch performing arts heritage, got interested in our project, and so Dutch Dance Film is meant to become a category in this digital archive.
The ‘Kick off’ and presentation took place in EYE Cinema on March 24th by Martine and Jellie, while showing a lot of fragments of Dance Movies.

The dance film DUÆL will premiere March 2021 at Cinedance Festival EYE Amsterdam.
What is the true face of dancer/choreographer Kenzo Kusuda? And what is so intriguing about the landscapes in the Belgium Ardennes? Those questions inspired me to make this improvised movie.

The website Datarecords of Dick Lucas ceased to exist independently because of his death. It is from now on incorporated in the new version of this website under the tab Datarecords.

Miniatuur, the short dance movie, was shown at the Sinema Dans Festival in Ankara last November, the InShadow Festival Lisbon last December, the TIGERTAIL Screen Dance Miami in January, BOLD Festival Canberra Australia in March, MIGRATIONS Performance/Visual Arts Events in Wales, UK in from February onwards.
