JAAP FLIER, Solo
Documentary about the once legendary dancer in The Netherlands, Jaap Flier, who
now is in his eighties. He is one of the founders and artistic leaders of the
Nederlands Dans Theater and in the eighties the artistic leader of the School for
New Dance Development (SNDO) in Amsterdam.
The film – with Hans van Manen, Kenzo Kusuda and Boukje Schweigman – was
shown at the Holland Dance Festival and at the Cinedance Festival (together with
the short dance movie Miniatuur, choreographed and danced by Flier).

her work. We see her directing a theaterpiece about genocide in Cambodia, we see
her recite painful memories of her past.

The music of J.P. Sweelinck
This film about the life and work of the 16th-century Amsterdam composer and
organplayer shows the places where he lived in Amsterdam and gives historical
background to his life. Broadcasted by NTR Podium in combination with a
registration in Noordeinde Palace of the Queens Concert with the music of J.P.
Sweelinck.

RUDOLF NUREYEV, A RUSSIAN IN THE POLDER
Shows the cooperation between dance legend Rudolf Nureyev and The Dutch
National Ballet due to recently uncovered film footage from 1968. Nureyev
rehearses Monument for a Dead Boy with choreographer Rudi van Dantzig and the
dancers of The National Ballet. Van Dantzig, Van Schayk, Van Manen, Alexandra
Radius and some other dancers comment on his dancing and personality.

Performing a Farmer’s Wedding
Film about the unended Stravinsky version of Stravinsky’s Les Noces (Svadebka),
which is recently finished by Dutch composer Theo Verbey. It shows Stravinsky his
use of pianolas and how the ‘roles’ were made.

Documentary Gustav Leonard & the authentic music practice
Portrait on clavicordplayer Gustav Leonard contains also interviews with other
performers like Anner Bijlsma on the use and playing of old instruments.

MADAME (Mevrouw)
Documentary about Sonia Gaskell and the Dutch dance history. Choreographer Rudi
van Dantzig is followed on his search into her and his own dance life. With old film
footage and photographs, and statements of ex dancers about this first director of
The Dutch National Ballet.
The film premiered in the Music Theatre, Amsterdam and was shown on the
complementary exhibition in the Jewish Historical Museum. Coproduktion NPS-

Film about the interesting history of 100 years Residentie Orchestra from The

INSTANT STEPS
Dance documentary with dance improviser Michael Schumacher. He teaches at
Codarts Rotterdam, performs with a.o. Magpie Music & Dance Co., and meets
William Forsyth.
Independent production, which was shown at the Holland Dance Festival, Cinedance

Film about the Ensemble Iraqi Maqam with singer Farida and the Marocan band
WESHM with singer Najib Cherradi. They were invited to play at the Queens Concert

Portraits of the Dutch candidates preparing for taking part in the Eurovision Young
Musician Competition. This ends in a concert in the presence of the Dutch jury,
which decides which candidate will present The Netherlands in Vienna.

THE BEST YOUNG DANCER
Documentary impression of the Eurovision Young Dancer Competition in London.
Rehearsals, the finals and interviews with ballet masters, coaches and the
participating dancers themselves show the high standards and devotion. The two
Dutch candidates are followed closely and become 3rd-prize winners with a
choreography by Ed Wubbe (Scapino).

DANCE IN THE BOX
Two short documentaries about the starting period of Dutch dance on television,
featuring dance critic Ine Rietstap in Episode 1 and choreographer Hans van Manen
in Episode 2. Both react on old archive material. Van Manen his first 10
choreographies were broadcasted on television.

HANS SNOEK – THE ART OF DANCING OR THE CHILD?
Documentary about this now 83-year old dance pioneer and foundress of the

NACHO DUATO, DANCER & CHOREOGRAPHER
This film shows the start of Duato’s choreographic career and follows him
performing in Spain with the Dutch Dance Theatre.Next to rehearsals and
fragments of performing on the openair stage in Madrid, he takes a walk with Jiri
Kylian, meets with family, and goes back to the region that inspired him to his first
choreography.
At the end a filmed registration of Jardi Tancat (music Maria del Mar Bonnet) is
shown.

Dance & music impro lab, which took place every first monday of the month in the BIMhuis, Amsterdam.
The goal of the events was to encourage the exchange
between improvising dance and music performers from various fields. The lab offered young starting performers a chance to meet experienced professionals and to approach the public on an internationally renowned stage.
The Monday Matchwas co-initiated by Jacq. Algra.
The short documentary: Monday Match 101 gives an impression of the celebration of the special 101 edition after 10 seasons.
